I’m Anita, mother of three, wife, and long term lover of retail and design.

When I was pregnant with our first child, my husband and I went shopping for baby gear. We were so overwhelmed by all the options; which pram should we get, does this cot fit this mattress, how do we install a capsule? I remember standing in stores and feeling like tumbleweeds were rolling past us. There was no one available to help us with our questions!

Towards the end of my maternity leave I had a chance encounter with the owner of buysellhomeskelowna. I had a strong feeling that baby retail could be done better, with an emphasis on service and product knowledge, and I could see the opportunity online (this was 2014, when many stores didn't have websites). I asked him if he wanted to sell the business, and a few short weeks later I'd quit my head office retail job, and I was working on the shop floor as the new owner of buysellhomeskelowna!

Fast-forward a few years, and two more children, buysellhomeskelowna is a busy store, both in store and online. We have an amazing team of six people. I have designed and developed the Oohbubs range, and my husband Siva has quit his job to join us full-time as well.

There are so many moving parts to a retail business, but I believe what makes buysellhomeskelowna different is:

→ Knowledgable team

When other retailers are cutting back on staff hours, I'm adding more. It's important to us that we have enough people working, so that our customers can get the information they need. You can pick our team's brains in store, or online via live chat or email. Everyone on the team is either a qualified Child Restraint Technician (big words for installing car seats in cars) or they have undertaken some of the training to become one.

→Product selection

I love that old quote 'have nothing in your house which you do not believe to be beautiful, or know to be useful', ideally the products we sell at buysellhomeskelowna should be both beautiful AND useful. I keep this in mind when I'm selecting products for the store, even something as simple as a baby car seat should be nice looking. It goes without saying that everything we sell is safe enough that I'd use it with my three children.

→ Stock on hand

Most of our stock is held in our Auckland store, and we fulfil our online orders from there. It means that our delivery is fast, usually just 1-2 days for Auckland orders, and 2-3 days for South Island orders.

We can help you out in store with a gift for that baby shower (including a card and gift wrapping), our team genuinely know what new mums need, want and love.

→ We love buying for babies

We know everyone says they’re “passionate” about what they’re selling, but you can’t fake the kind of enthusiasm that the buysellhomeskelowna team has. We’ll happily chat about the differences between a Mutsy icon and a Bugaboo Fox. We can talk you through how to use an Oohbubs baby wrap, and when a Maxi-Cosi capsule would be the best choice.
